The Foundation
LA FUNDACIÓ EL SOLÀ is a nonprofit organization that was founded in October 1999. It is dedicated to the study, conservation, development, and promotion of its cultural heritage, primarily in the village of La Fatarella, but also within the Terra Alta region and its surrounding Catalan speaking areas, paying special attention to dry stone building techniques.
THE FOUNDATION IS BASED IN LA FATARELLA, a village with a population of 1,300, in the Terra Alta region, a mountainous area in Catatonia, Spain, which has a rich historical patrimony that is worth investigating, protecting and promoting.

ITS HEADQUARTERS IS SITUATED IN A BUILDING CONSTRUCTED IN 1726, located on El Solà Street, in the historical center of the village. This building formed part of the wall that surrounded the village throughout the Middle Ages until the end of the XVIII century. There is a new addition that faces Vall d’Estudi Street, where part of the foundation’s installations can be found.

LIBRARY AND DOCUMENTATION CENTER. El Solà Foundation is a center for documentation and interpretation of La Fatarella’s and it’s neighboring areas’ natural and cultural patrimony, and includes texts, photographs, and audiovisuals within its computerized database. The foundation continually works to expand its bibliographic and document library, and organizes expositions, conferences, and courses, among other things.
