Miscellaneous constructions

This chapter presents an example of dry stone construction that is difficult to categorize. It is possible that by strolling through this municipality we could find more samples, but the one mentioned here demonstrates how, with this dry stone technique and a little resourcefulness, our forebears were able to provide very satisfactory solutions to many of their needs.

La Fatarella’s snow well is worth mentioning. Although regretfully it has been demolished, it is remembered to this day by the people of the village and is documented in the book Neveres Preindustrials (Pous de neu) (Pre-industrial Refrigerators (Snow wells)) by Ramon Amigó. This well was located at the entrance to the village. The stones that made up its roof, supported by two pointed arches, were used to restore the village’s chapel. At some point it was filled in for safety reasons.
