Juniper oil kilns

Juniper oil kilns, as their name indicates, were used to obtain juniper oil.
This product, used in veterinary medicine and perfumery, was obtained by burning the trunks of these trees.
These kilns were small, circular-shaped constructions built over basin-like rocks and had dome-shaped roofs.
There was an opening through which the firewood was inserted and ignited in order to burn the juniper trunks. The trunks exuded a resin that dripped through a hole and was collected in a basin outside of the kiln. The juniper oil was obtained after a simple purification process.
